Young the Giant @ Central Park SummerStage 9/13

“Life’s too short to even care at all, oh. I’m losing my mind, losing my mind, losing control.” It’s one of Young the Giant’s biggest songs called “Cough Syrup” off their debut self-titled album. And then there’s also “My Body”–one of their other major hits–that’s catchy as fuck, seductive, and makes you want to party and dance and make out with a stranger because there’s something about this band that makes you want to live in the moment, celebrate youth, laugh for no reason.

Young the Giant knew that music was what they wanted to do in life, so they ditched college, started a band that used to be called The Jakes, signed to Roadrunner Records, and opened up for bands like Kings of Leon and Minus the Bear. Their second album was released in 2014 called Mind Over Matter and just last year they released Home of the Strange with their hit single “Amerika” which is the first track on the album. Between these two albums, Young the Giant seems to have honed in on their more dramatic side. Songs like “Firelight” and “Titus Was Born” prove the band’s versatility and that not every song needs to take over your whole body in order to make its point. They want to experiment a little, shake things up, explore different avenues. And hell yeah, it all works.

Young the Giant is also known for their epic live shows, commanding the stage and demanding your attention. So whether it’s an old song or a new one, remember to live in the moment–because that’s what their music is kind of all about.
