Those of you who have been following Ultra festival since it got it’s start in Miami in 1999, knows it has become sensation taking over Europe the Caribbean and more. Unfortunately, a dispute between the heads of the brand and their European counterparts may be one of the biggest disputes in electronic music history.
Since the end of April, disputes about legalities in Miami’s federal courts over Ultra Europe’s claiming unfair demands from Ultra HQ. AMM also accuses Miami of restricting access to their social media sites to promote the upcoming festival in Croatia this July. However, the worst claim is that the promoters of Ultra Europe are reporting that the Miami company never had an Ultra trademark in Croatia at all. Miami released a statement saying this is completely untrue and that they do own the trademark for the company name in Croatia as well as the rest of Europe.
According to Ultra Europe, some of these crazy demands included ” “exclusive approval of vendors, prohibitively expensive staffing arrangements, luxury travel arrangements, and additional promotional fees.” While all of this has been going on, Ultra Miami has put up a counter claim in court. The counter suit claims that Ultra Europe promoters have thrown unapproved events, shared trade secrets, and breached their contract. Miami also claims that AMM has been throwing unapproved events that go directly against Ultra HQ, while they are still deep in debt.
Despite all of this, Ultra Europe is still going to happen this July and they are reaching out to the Croatian Ministry of Tourism for up to 1 million Euros to keep this festival afloat.
