Night Things Release Shimmering New Song “Reasons”

Night Things, a new synth pop group featuring Maize LaRue and Zach Shields, have released another dazzling new song, “Reasons.” The song opens with LaRue’s flawless vocal delivery backed by simple crystalline guitar picking, straddling the line between live band and full electronics. From simple beginnings blooms an intricately layered piece of electronic pop music. It makes the most of its compact three and a half minute running time, the vocalist’s emotions ebbing and flowing through various distinct but interconnected musical passages.

As a follow up to the immediately affecting first single “Cost of the Summer,” “Reasons” checks all the boxes and further cements Night Things one of 2017’s most exciting new bands.

The dreamy sound of Night Things makes a lot of sense when digging deeper into the group’s genesis. As the band name and the imagery of “Cost of the Summer” video suggest, the project is based upon dreams. The group are “collecting dreams” with their The Office of Night Things. There, folks can record their dreams and add a bit of themselves to this exciting new band.

As noted in the video for the band’s previous song, LaRue is an extremely accomplished dancer. Meanwhile, Shields has his own success outside of music, writing the well-received film Krampus. He is also a member of Dead Man’s Bones, a rock group that he performed in with his friend, actor Ryan Gosling. The group featured a collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir and released an album in 2009.
