Municipal Waste is back! The thrash giants have marked their return with a new album Slime and Punishment, after a five year hiatus, out June 23.Fans have enjoyed a fairly routine album release schedule since 2003’s Waste ‘Em All, putting out albums every two or three years. After their fifth album The Fatal Feast, the group took a brief hiatus from music and from headbanging. Now the group is officially back, with a new album looming on the horizon.
Along with the album announcement, the band provided the first single, “Amateur Sketch,” and should be a trip down memory lane for friends. It’s no frills thrash metal, nothing more, and certainly nothing less that will kick out your teeth if you aren’t careful when listening. Energetic guitars drive the pace while Tony Foresta’s cuts even harder than the riffs. “Amateur Sketch” also marks the first time Municipal Waste has released music with two guitarists in the band. Nick ‘Nikropolis’ Poulos joined the group in 2015.
In addition to the new guitarist, Slime and Punishment marks the first Waste album engineered by bassist for the band Phil “Landphill” Hall at Torment Studios in VA. Bill Metoyer of Slayer, Lizzy Borden and Dark Angel fame will be the master behind the boards. Aside from studio duties, Municipal Waste teamed up with Andrei Bouzikov, a close friend of the band, to create the album artwork, making this his fourth Waste album. He also crafted art for Massive Aggressive, The Art of Partying and the split EP with Toxic Holocaust, Toxic Waste.
As for what to expect musically? The band says “it’s pretty much the same bizarre world of Municipal Waste songwriting,” that fans can expect. So if you’ve been a fan of their previous work, you should be in for a treat.
The June 23 album will be released through Nuclear Blast, and is already available for pre-order, including colored vinyl, cassette tapes (is this really a thing again??) and a lunch box. Municipal Waste will also be on the majority of Vans 2017 Warped tour. Check out the new song and full tracklist below.
