Interpol @ Forest Hills Stadium 9/23

Interpol represents New York City. And just recently the band announced their latest upcoming release that’s due out next year, which they’re recording right here at home. In the meantime they’ll be on tour, celebrating their fifteenth anniversary of Turn on the Bright Lights (the album that Pitchfork named their #1 album of the year), which they’ll perform in its entirety. Interpol will only be performing two of these celebratory shows–one here in NY and the other in LA.

Interpol gained vast success rather quickly in the beginning of their careers–topping charts, signing to Matador, touring the world, opening for bands like U2. And their edgy yet collected, lonely and sophisticated indie songs have led them to five studio albums, including a Spotify Sessions record, most of which were recorded at the famous Electric Lady Studios here in the city.

The band has seen some initial lineup changes since their start, but the current trio that includes Paul Banks, Sam Fogarino and Daniel Kessler will carry the torch just fine. Playing their debut album at Forest Hills Stadium will bring them back to their humble beginnings, to the seductive underground vibe of the Lower East Side when emotionally dark and catchy indie bands were emerging like crazy, and when dreaming of playing huge gigs not just in New York but all over the world seemed like such a hazy, distant dream. But much has changed since then. Interpol is a huge force in music. And seeing them play in their city on such a major stage is definitely something to celebrate.
