The acclaimed music group, Sweet Apple, comes together once again to release their newest album called Sing the Night in Sorrow, which will be available July 28 through Tee Pee Records. The pressure is on this group after their last album, The Golden Age of Glitter, released in 2014 which received best album of the year by ABC News and was highly rated by Esquire.
Many have wondered why this group is even together because of the far distances they have to travel to work and make music as one. With the singer and guitarist J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr., Heavy Blanket), Dave Sweetapple (Witch, Eerie) from Massachusetts and Tim Parnin (Cobra Verde, Chuck Mosley) and John Petkovic (Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha, Guided By Voices) from Cleveland, Ohio, some say they are too spread apart.
However, they have communicated across hundreds of miles to create music that has been reviewed as high quality rock and some feel that the distance is what has made their music stand out. Petkovic said because of the far distance they travel, their music is more informed, covering topics that may affect one area differently from another, but also because of the “back together again” quality he feels they reflects onto the audience.
They’ve decided that Sing the Night in Sorrow will reach out even further, adding new artists to hopefully create another groundbreaking album. These new artists include: Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), Robert Pollard (Guided by Voices), Rachel Haden (Haden Triplets) and Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf) and Stephen McBean(Black Mountain, Pink Mountaintops) who will join on second guitar.
Sweet Apple has gone the distance to create a new album that will hopefully stand up to their last.
