Royal Blood didn’t need anyone famous to talk about their band. But when music icon Jimmy Page heard their music and loved their songs, that’s when Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher new that things were really happening. It was a humbling compliment–the compliment of a career most would say–and as Royal Blood’s self-titled album quickly became the fastest-selling British rock album in over three years (topping releases by The Strokes and Kasabian) the band continued on, just rockin’ out as hard as they seriously could. Like, seriously.
It’s amazing to listen to Royal Bloods and their overcoming sound that’s magnetic and grizzly, dirty and scandalous, and realize that there are only two members in the group. Songs like “Out of the Black” and “Figure it Out” are huge songs. They could be a six-person outfit if you listened with your eyes closed, so it’s no wonder that their explosive garage-rock sound has led them to a massive world tour (including major festivals), an award for Best British Group in 2015, and also led them to opening for bands like the Foo Fighters. Sometimes that’s all it takes–two guys, one album.
Royal Blood just recently announced the release of their upcoming album called How Did We Get So Dark?–an album that the band hunkered down and wrote out in California, choosing from over fifty songs that the band wrote and recorded there. Their latest single “Lights Out” has already been released, and it’s another fixating song that’s beyond loaded with the purest, most stellar bad-ass rock. Pre-order the album, due out June 16, here.
