KRS-One, who with True Master has released the album Meta Historical, paid tribute to wrong Beastie Boys member in their recent album released, called The World is MIND, with a song called “Hip Hop Speaks From Heaven.”
The song references many influential artists who have passed away, including Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg, J Dilla, Eazy-E, Biggie, and Big Pun.
According to SPIN, The artist was trying to reference Adam “MCA” Yauch, the member who passed away in 2012 at the age of 47 with the diagnosis of cancer. Instead, Ad-Rock was referenced in the song.
Around the 3:12 point of the song, the lyrics say ““Like a late fog in the mist/I see King Ad-Rock/And rest in peace Nate Dogg/Their names and their natures will last…”
UPDATE (5/13): KRS-One has issued an apology for the lyrical mistake in a post on Twitter. He states that he will re-record the song with the corrected reference to MCA instead of Ad-Rock, and will pull the previous version. It is no longer available on Bandcamp (though the rest of the album can be heard here).
