English indie rock band, Alt-J, have enlisted Iggy Pop to narrate their new video for “In Cold Blood.” The clip has been directed by Casper Balslev and dramatizes a day in the life of a wood mouse. The song will appear on the British outfit’s upcoming third LP, Relaxer, out June 2nd.
The clip begins with Iggy outlining the travails of wood mouse life. “It must be cautious,” he warns. “Enemies are everywhere.” In a dramatic conclusion he narrates:
“The humble wood mouse, if it survives, it will be because of a remarkable skill to adapt to almost any new environment on its way to the future. And the future indeed looks bright.”
Alt-J spoke of the creative direction for the video in a press release:
We love working with great directors, giving them the creative freedom to interpret our tracks as they wish. It leads to great collaborations, like this new video for In Cold Blood from Casper Balslev. As you are about to find out, a day in the life of a wood mouse can be unexpectedly dangerous… We hope you enjoy it.
The new dark video for “In Cold Blood” is similar in style to their equally uncanny clip for “3WW.” Relaxer will be the first full-length album the band has released since their 2014 album This Is All Yours. The group has a handful of summer concerts planned, with a longer North American tour set to begin in October.
