Kendrick Lamar @ Oracle Arena 8/4

Rapper Kendrick Lamar is heading into the Bay Area this summer and will be playing in Oakland. Lamar will be performing at the Oracle Arena on August 4th. He’s going on his DAMN. Tour alongside D.R.A.M and Travis Scott.

The Compton native has been a force of nature for the last couple of years within the rap scene. His most recent release was this year with his wildly popular album DAMN.. The album’s first single, HUMBLE., made waves when it first dropped. It was being played everywhere, the radio, Spotify, and every place with wifi. Other songs that followed HUMBLE.’s wave of success were (all the songs on the album?) DNA., ELEMENT., LOYALTY., and LOVE.. My personal favorites from this album are the aforementioned LOYALTY. and DUCKWORTH.. This album made waves not only due to its content but because of it’s speculation that followed, particularly the lingering question of an immediate (like the next day immediate) follow up. This unfortunately didn’t happen, but it was an impressive rumor. Other than this recent album, Lamar has dropped three other albums 2011’s Section.80, 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, and 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly. Lamar also dropped the mixtape untitled unmastered last year. Hit song from his impressive discography include m.A.A.d city, Swimming Pools, Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, Poetic Justice (another personal favorite), F**ckin’ Problem, and The Recipe.

Fans of Schoolboy Q, Drake, and Ab-Soul will be down for this concert. Kendrick Lamar is riding a wave of success with this hit album and his previous endeavours. His rap style is heavily influenced by the distinct California flare you can only find on the west coast, but he is also bringing in social justice issues, he’s writing “human music”. Catch this performance and grab a ticket because this is gonna be one of the best concerts of summer 17.
