Sweden’s dark-pop darling Tove Lo (pronounced Too-veh-Lu) isn’t scared to write and sing about exactly what she wants. Nothing is off-limits when it comes to her music, which she floods with a rare sense of honesty that often explores the good, the bad and the ugly of all things in life–especially when it comes to sex, relationships, drugs. Tove Lo is also very open when it comes to her sexuality, which is celebrated on her latest album’s name called Lady Wood, as well as the name of her single called “Cool Girl.”
Tove Lo first emerged with an EP called Truth Serum in 2014, followed by Queen of the Clouds, her first full-length that she describes as being a “concept” album that explores three main themes: sex, love and pain. Her music was quick to grab everyone’s attention, got her to the top of the Billboard and radio charts all over the world, and led her to collaborate with top artists like Coldplay and Nick Jonas. But Tove Lo isn’t just an alt-pop star. She’s also a stellar songwriter, and co-wrote the pop hit “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding.
Tove Lo is known for being a darker, alternative sort of popstar, which you can hear on one of her top singles “Habits (Stay High)” on which she sings lyrics like “I gotta stay high all the time to keep you off my mind” and “Gotta stay high all my life to forget I’m missing you.” There’s nothing to sugarcoat for this sassy girl.
