Jack White has just signed a massive new global publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group. The deal is the very first time a single publisher will globally have the rights to White’s entire music catalogue. UMPG will have exclusive access and direct control over all of White’s hits, including famous songs from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, as well as his solo albums, Blunderbuss and Lazaretto.
UMPG is extremely excited about the new deal, obviously. They now have the global rights to one of the most prolific artists of our time, who is not only original and creative in his artistry, but also knows how to create songs that are hits. Not many artists are equally respected for their craft and as critical darlings, like White is. During his 20-year career, White has 170 songwriting credits, won 12 Grammys and been nominated a ridiculous 35 times. “Jack White is a brilliant and prolific performer, songwriter and producer, whose immense artistry, talent, dedication and uncompromising approach to songwriting have found a new home at UMPG,” Jody Gerson, chairman and CEO of UMPG, said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to putting the entire global resources of UMPG to work on expanding the popularity and commercial opportunities for his music.”
White’s team is also happy to be apart of UMPG. “The entire UMPG team uphold a culture that fosters creativity,” Ian Montone, White’s long time manager, said. “We are excited to be part of the UMPG family.” The new deal includes White’s publishing companies, Third String Tunes and Peppermint Stripe Music, allowing them to continue developing and assisting new and existing projects.
White was previously with Sony ATV Music Publishing and Mushroom Music Publishing outside of North America, and self-administered in the U.S. The new deal with UMPG should open up many new opportunities and avenues for White all around the world, giving him access like he’s never had before.
According to the The New Yorker, White has been working on new project that has yet to be released. He has been hiding away in a small Nashville apartment away from all the computers and modern technology. His new project is sure to make some waves whenever it releases, and his new deal with UMPG is sure to help.
