The combination of Amanda Palmer and Edward Ka-Spel has struck again! The pair have released a new video for “The Clock At The Back Of The Cage,” a track from the upcoming May 5 LP I Can Spin Rainbow. Like the vast majority of Palmer’s work, the video was funded by her fans via Patreon with over 9300 patrons contributing. The resulting video is a true piece of visual art, with the song serving as spellbinding soundtrack.
Edward Ka-Spel, frontman of The Legendary Pink Dots makes a very intriguing music partner for Palmer, and the results have been impressive. Palmer stated when the album was announced that this collaboration has been a lifelong dream of hers; The Legendary Pink Dots have served as a powerful inspiration for her own art.
The video stars Christy Louise Flaws & Luke O’Connor, who are both directors along with Chris Bennett. The pair stiltedly move up and across the screen, herded by furniture fragments and large, drab sheets that form elephants and serpentine vines. The song is led vocally by Ka-Spel, as he spins an enchanting tale backed by Palmer’s idiosyncratic singing.
The video encourages the viewer to switch to full-screen mode, as that is the optimal way to watch.
The duo released an equally artful music video for their tune “Beyond the Beach” back in March.
