Just look at the name of these Allentown, PA punk-rockers and you’ll already begin to get a sense of what this band is all about. Pissed Jeans takes pride in making people feel uncomfortable. And they’ll never apologize for it.
Pissed Jeans plays heavy, dirty garage punk-rock that first started with their debut album ten years ago called People Person. The album is serious–serious as in delivering songs that are grimy and kind of scary, as you can hear on tracks like “Scrapbooking” and “Fantasy World.” But the whole album is basically like that, as it twists together angst and bad moods and leaves you feeling dark and troubled–but in a way that’s OK, that’s acceptable, because after all isn’t that the backbone of punk?
Now signed to Sub Pop, the band has released a total of five full-length albums–the latest called Why Love Now that came out this past February, and happens to be their most “relatable” punk sound to date (even though it’s still completely brash and relentless). The album was produced by Lydia Lunch and Arthur Rizk who helped guide the band’s vision on this record to explore the themes of gender division and modern masculinity, as you can particularly hear on the song “I’m a Man.” Seeing Pissed Jeans live (especially at such an intimate venue like Mercury Lounge which they’ll surely rock like they crazy) will definitely leave you feeling sweaty and inappropriate, maybe even make you want kick stuff and get mad, but hey, it’s OK–they’ll love it.
