David Hasselhoff Declares “We Are Groot!” on “Guardians Inferno” from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Soundtrack

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has just recently released the only original song from the soundtrack of the upcoming film. The new song goes right along with the theme of the 80s and 90s funk fusion sound, but more importantly, features television icon David Hasselhoff rapping and James Gunn singing the chorus. The new song, “Guardians Inferno,” is performed by The Sneepers and co-written by Gunn and score composer Tyler Bates.

The long awaited soundtrack of the new sequel has just been released in its entirety. The first film gained lots of buzz and intrigue largely due to the masterful choice of music. The first film was filled with classic gems like Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” and Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling.” Gunn’s idea for the music came from figuring out what tunes would be on the Walkman that Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill, was carrying around. In the film, Quill only owns one cassette given to him by his mother, titled “Awesome Mix Vol. 1.” The first movie’s soundtrack found major success as a chart topping, platinum album. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter Quill adds another cassette to his collection, titled “Awesome Mix Vol. 2.” Due to the sequels larger budget, Gunn has created a soundtrack that boasts George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord,” Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” and ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky.”

The soundtracks for the Guardians films have always been integral to the story. The cassettes were given to Quill by his mother and the music choice is intentional to add layers and identity to her. The goal was to create the image of a young, quirky girl who was a funky music lover and fell in love with an alien. The creation of Quill’s mother was important to understanding Quill himself, both oddballs.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast includes the return of Pratt as Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface and Kurt Russell as Ego, the Living Planet.

Check out the brand new, original song below and get ready for the sequel to hit the ground running in theaters May 5th.
