Pittsburgh post-punk rockers The Gotobeds have two albums under their belts–the first called Poor People Are Revolting from 2014, and the second called Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic from 2016. The band is currently signed to Sub Pop Records.
What you get when you listen to The Gotobeds is a brash garage rock sound that includes real AF guitars riffs and in-your-face vocals from Eli Kasan as he sings lyrics like “new york’s alright if you can get yr dick sucked, collegiate display of post-classic head-fuck” as heard in the song “Ny’s Alright” off their debut album. But most of their songs are like that–all maintaining a certain dirty tempo, playing as though drunk in an underground venue that demands them play as seriously hard as they can, to make their music bounce of the walls (in the most perfectly explosive punk-rock way, of course).
Their sophomore album is a “smoother” collection of songs, especially tracks like “Bodies” and “Red Alphabet.” It’s almost as if the quartet has discovered themselves a bit more (a lot more)–but even though they’re a bit “catchier” now overall, they’re still the same fearless punksters that they first introduced themselves as. Listen to “Brass Not Rash” and “Manifest” off this album and you’ll get it.
