Coco Montoya @ Space (6/15)

American blues guitarist Coco Montoya will be at Evanston’s Space June 15th.  The amazingly talented master of the electric six-string brings his soulful voice to the city that loves its blues.

Montoya’s long and impressive career began in his native California in the 1970’s.  He grew up playing drums for rock and roll bands but soon transferred to the guitar.  John Mayall heard Montoya playing in a bar in the 80’s which led to Montoya joining his band, the Bluebreakers.  They released their first album in 1985 and Montoya was with the band for 10 years when he decided to break out on his own.  He released his first studio album Gotta Mind To Travel in 1995.  Since then, he has released nine more albums with the most recent Hard Truth which was released last month.

Coco Montoya has a unique way of playing his six-string.  As a leftie, Montoya plays the left handed guitar with a right handed neck, essentially the strings are upside down.  He brings his soulful voice to the blues with an R&B approach.  Ticket information below.
