WATCH: Malcolm Mooney, Thurston Moore, Steve Shelley and More Perform Together at Can 50th Anniversary Celebration

To usher in the 50th anniversary of experimental German rock group Can, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley and My Bloody Valentine’s Deb Googe joined Malcom Mooney, Can’s original vocalist, on stage. The show was called The Can Project and took place, for the first night, at London’s Barbican Hall on April 8, fan footage can be seen below.

As reported by Consequence of Sound, the show included several renditions of Can’s original material. There was also segment that featured Can keyboardist, Irmin Schmidt, orchestrating the London Symphony Orchestra for a special song titled “An homage to Can.” The next production to be put on by The Can Project will be in June at Glastonbury.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
