For longtime fans of the punk-rock band The Movielife, it’s been a really, really long time. The band from Long Island was only together for two records (This Time Next Year which was released in 2000), followed by Forty Hour Train Back to Penn in 2003) before they decided to call it quits. From there, members of the band went on to form other bands like I Am the Avalanche and Nightmare of You.
The Movielife announced a reunion show at Bamboozle, and then years later in 2014 the band officially got back together. For fans to have the chance to see The Movielife play their greatest songs again, like “This Time Next Year” and “Kelly Song,” it was the news they’ve been waiting for. For Vinnie Caruana and Brandon Riley, it was finally an easy choice to make.
The band has already released a new song called “Future Feeling (Afraid of Drugs)”–and even though it’s been fourteen years since the band has written and released music together, it doesn’t sound that way at all. Time hasn’t broken their vibe. Instead, The Movielife have embraced that time outside of the band. They’ve done their own thing. They’ve changed. And now they’re ready to return to that life again. And as they sing from their latest single, “Would it kill you to have compassion for anyone else? Oh my love, you’re ever so slightly doing my fucking head in,” it’s proof that The Movielife really are back.
