WATCH: Beach Fossils Release New Video for “Saint Ivy”

New York City-based noise pop group Beach Fossils are back with a new video from their upcoming album Somersault, which will be released on June 2 through Bayonet Records. It is the second song to be released from their third album, following “This Year.” It is also the first release for frontman Dustin Payseur’s label Bayonet Records, after the band spent the early portion of their careers on Captured Tracks.

While Beach Fossils are best known for their lo-fi sound, “Saint Ivy” takes them in a whole new direction. This song incorporates elements such as strings and pianos, giving its classic pop-influenced sound on a grand scale. Visually, the video is a tribute to the many artists of New York City, the metropolis the band calls home. Directed by Joey Chriqui and Milah Libin, the video features artists from the city that have come up through the public school system in the country’s largest city.

In many ways, the video comes as a direct response to what many perceive as a growing hostile attitude towards diversity – Chriqui and Libin’s comment on the video:

“In uncertain times, we turn to New York City as a reassuring look into the true diversity of this country. We set out to create a vision of NYC that demonstrates a more honest and nuanced understanding of what it means to live here. This video represents the less visible places and characters that exist in beautiful harmony both in this city, and in America.”
