WATCH: Thrice Releases New Video for “Hurricane”

Post-hardcore group Thrice are back with the latest release from their new album To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere, this time video for the lead-off song “Hurricane.” The song follows “Black Honey” as the second single from the album.

The song begins with a mellow, strummed acoustic guitar before erupting into an anthemic guitar solo. The video depicts a young boy walking through a vast orchard of citrus trees, coming face to face with a similarly-aged girl.

As the two children touch fingers, the shot transitions into what appears to be a flash-forward of them as adults (though later scenes show the boy with the man, so who knows). The imagery of falling rain fits in well with the lyrics from the song: “It’s gonna rain, it’s gonna rain / Till the levee breaks / A tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away.”

To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere was released in 2016 and is the band’s ninth studio album. It came after a relatively long gap between albums, following 2011’s Major/Minor. The album has a bit more of an overt political message than previous albums by Thrice. Typically the band’s lyrical themes have been more centered on personal relationships, but lead singer and guitarist Dustin Kensrue stated this one looked around the world and drew inspiration from social, political and cultural themes. For instance, “Death from Above” is told from the perspective of a drone bomb operator while the song “Blood On the Sand” includes lyrics like “We kiss the hands of profiteers and their congressmen.”

The band also has a two track 7″ that will be on sale April 22 – better known to record-aficionados as Record Store Day. The band will also be on tour with Rise Against and Deftones this summer.
