Indie dance-pop band Rubblebucket is making moves into San Francisco this spring and will be playing The Independent. They’ll be making their stop in the city on May 17th, but this won’t be the band’s only stop in the Bay as they will also be playing shows in Santa Cruz and Sacramento on previous nights.
Rubblebucket brings back indie dance pop in combination with a fun reggae sound with ska music to perfect a uniquely their own sound. The band just dropped their latest EP If U C My Enemies this past January. The four song EP features the hits Not Cut out for This and If U C My Enemies. Previous to that the band has released four other albums and four other EPs spanning their 10 years as a band. Their first album dropped in 2008 and was entitled Rose’s Dream and after that the band has been rolling and touring for the better part of their existence. Some of the best songs that the band has produced include Came Out of a Lady, Donna, Carousel Ride, On The Ground, and Forlornification. All of the band’s sounds have fun vibes and carry neo-psychedelic elements combined with big band elements, like the use of the trumpet in the majority of their songs. The band’s vocalist Kalmia Traver’s vocal talent is perfect for the type of music this band is producing, its whimsical and dynamic; metaphorically the songs remind me of what art pop would sound like if it weren’t a genre of art. In other words, it’s perfect.
Fans of Ok Go, SRTFKR, and Generationalists will be down for this show. This band is doing something most mainstream artists aren’t they are bringing in a ton of diverse sounds and mixing them and creating some of the best dance-pop I’ve ever heard. The songs are fun, strange, and sweet and invoke the same feelings within the listener. Grab a ticket and a beer and let’s get dancing when this band rolls into the city.
