Warpaint Announces Spring 2017 Tour Dates

Los Angeles indie rock band Warpaint has just announced a collection of headlining US tour dates in support of their critically acclaimed third album, Heads Up, which was released last September.

In addition to a show in Coachella, as well as previously announced festivals including Shaky Knees, Hangout and Governors Ball, Warpaint has added dates in May and June including Bonnaroo. The newly added shows are listed below, and many more dates are soon to come.

The band said in a press release “last of our US headline shows for the year coming up soon! a couple sweet festivals as well… see you out there!”

2016 was a huge year for the band. “New Song” from Heads Up —which The New York Times says “feels, actually, like an old song: something from the end of the 1970s when punk, disco and Minimalism found common ground in repetition, simple chords and a danceable thump”—topped radio charts nationwide, and the band toured the U.S. twice to celebrate the release.

Once the album was released, it continued to receive critical praise from various publications. NPR Music said “From the start, Warpaint has been knocking on the door of an aesthetic that captivates by playing off the tension between hard-driving rhythms and spectral atmospherics. At the 9:30 Club, with smoke catching the lights and plumes of guitars mingling with Stella Mozgawa’s titanic drums, the band brought its records to life on a whole new scale.”

The New Yorker continued this phrase, saying “Heads Up signals a turn away from otherworldly psychedelic soundscapes in favor of a terrestrial one: the dance floor…the band sounds as sure and ebullient as ever.” Vogue called it “the liveliest, most mature record of their career.”

UPDATE (6/12): Warpaint have added substantially to their current tour, which wrapped up over the weekend at Bonnaroo. The tour now heads to the United Kingdom and Europe before coming back to the United States. Most notably, several of these dates are opening for former OneDirection star Harry Styles, who is embarking on a solo tour. The band is also opening for 80s legends Depeche Mode on select dates.
