The most well-known, popular music festivals, including Coachella, Governor’s Ball, Reading & Leeds, Primavera, etc., seem to be located in the Americas or in Europe, but an equally impressive festival with a phenomenal lineup occurs every year in Australia too: Splendour in the Grass.

The event’s name was inspired by “Ode: Intimations of Immortality,” a piece by the English poet William Wordsworth, which says “Though nothing can bring back the hour/Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower/We will grieve not, rather find/Strength in what remains behind.”

Held since 2001, the festival was organized by the Village Sounds and Secret Service music companies, in order to establish a market during Australia’s winter season (July/August), which was typically known for not having many events of this nature. The festival evolved from a one day event to two days, and is now, since 2014, serving over 30,000 festivalgoers over 3 days. The festival was even awarded the FasterLouder Festival Award for ‘Favourite Line Up’ in 2009.

The festival is located in Byron Bay (North Byron Parklands starting 2013), and will be held July 21 through July 23 this year.

The event has just announced its full lineup, a thoroughly jawdropping list of phenomenal artists from all across the spectrum, including Queens of the Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem and Royal Blood.

As always, Splendour will be a host to a variety of parties, eateries, and entertainment over its three days. The Splendour Forum will provide a platform for debate, discussion and philsophical conversations, while the Global Village will put a number of worldly artists like Dustin Thomas, Paul George of Tijuana Cartel, The Bombay Royale and Luka Lesson in front of you, in between zen yoga classes and massages.

Splendour In The Craft is also back so you can get creative with that glue gun. For those who’d just like to just view great art rather than create it, Splendour Arts is back with a number of installations, live art and performances taking over the Splendour site, too. Plus, cop some giggles in between live sets at the Comedy Club, or stumble across the next big thing at the Buskers Stage.

Christopher Lee: I am a college student from California. I am a massive fan of most things rock, and especially of all things Car Seat Headrest. Journalism has been a great passion of mine, and I hope that I'll be able to continue to merge my worlds of music and journalism as the years go on.
