Sluggish Rock for the Nostalgic Listener
British alt-rock band Bush just released their seventh studio album, Black and White Rainbows. Best known for their grunge work during the ’90s, Bush stick to their usual sound on their newest work.
The LP starts off slow with “Mad Love.” Lead singer Gavin Rossdale’s strong vocals stand out right from the start of this song, which details being stricken with “mad love” for someone.
Slow seems to be a theme throughout this album. “Lost in You” is another standout, downtempo track about love. With great guitar work and a dynamic build up, this one is sure to be set on repeat. Lyrics include, “I get lost in you / a safe place to come / cause you, you were the only one / to help to see me through.”
“Nothing but a Car Chase” carries a unique beat that is mixed with strong vocals from Rossdale. This song is about hanging onto oneself when faced with difficult circumstances. “Water” is another unique track that features similarly strong vocals and a cool vibe. Its lyrics course with emotion, “I will always be yours / you stole my heart some time ago / now in the madness of this winter / we wait for spring to grow.”
“All the Worlds Within You” is another impressive track lyrically. It starts off fast, but ends with an acoustic section that adds a different touch. Lyrics include, “all the love that’s inside you / all the scars and the lows / all the worlds.”
For those fans looking for a more upbeat, rock sound, they are in luck. “Peace-s” is a song filled with a rock beat, heavy drums and a fun melody. Later on, “Dystopia” maintains these fun, rock ‘n’ roll vibes. With its catchy chorus and melody, this is the kind of song that will echo from concert halls.
With the sharp mix of slow and rock songs, Bush certainly will please their long-standing fans with their new album.
