Today feels like a pretty good day doesn’t it? It might be because King Kendrick (maybe) just announced his new album!
This morning fans noticed the Compton native wiped his entire Instagram account clean except for a simple black photo with the white Roman numerals “IV.” While on paper that might not look all that impressive, Kendrick has released three studio albums not counting his untitled.unmastered collection, and his next album is set to be his fourth LP (“IV” means four) so this is probably not just Kendrick proving he knows his Roman numerals.
K.Dot has already confirmed on multiple occasions that he has been recording new material after slew of monster guest verses over the course of 2016. In an interview with The New York Times, Lamar said that he’s “going back to [his] community.”
While the legendary and mammoth To Pimp a Butterfly was “addressing the problem,” the new album is about how he’s moving on from that.
“We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God,” Lamar said. “Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”
Take what you want from that quote and try to keep your expectations to a minimum (but seriously there better be a Chance the Rapper collab).
While there hasn’t been an official album announcement, when the mostly recluse K.Dot puts out a post on social media, especially a stunt this big, something’s on the way. Soon (April is also the fourth month of the year).
Spend too much time analyzing the IG post below.
Kendrick Lamar will also be at this year’s Rolling Loud festival.
