Thurston Moore Announces New Album Rock n Roll Consciousness for April 2017 Release

Ex-Sonic Youth guitarist and vocalist Thurston Moore has just announced new album, titled Rock ‘n Roll Consciousness, to follow-up 2014’s excellent The Best Day. The new record is set for release on April 28th via Caroline International.

The songs of Rock ‘n Roll Consciousness are brought to life by the same core lineup that delivered The Best Day: Deb Googe (of My Bloody Valentine and Snowpony) on bass, James Sedwards (of Nøught and Chrome Hoof) on guitar and Steve Shelley (from Sonic Youth and Crucifucks) on drums. According to the press release, the recording “highlights the group’s instrumental strength and beauty following two solid years of touring behind Best Day.

Along with the album announcement, Moore satiates his fans’ appetites with a lead single titled “Smoke of Dreams.” The song sees Moore recalling a New York City in which spirits informed artists of seeking poems of beatitude and sonic prayers of joy and wild wonder.

Rock ‘n Roll Consciousness was recorded with producer Paul Epworth (Adele, The Pop Group) at The Church studios in Crouch End, London and mixed by Randall Dunn (Marissa Nadler, Earth) at Avast! in Seattle, Washington. The expansive sound on the record seems to exemplify the heavy lifting done by the production team, the album offering a wild leap forward with its anthemic and exploratory tracks.

The songs will take on a powerful subject matter, heralding love between angels, goddess mysticism and belief in healing through rebirth. Inspirited by radical love and the energies of the challenged soul of Mother Earth/Nature in direct resistance, the music is decidedly charged by the force of positive action and a great, true love where the feminine/masculine come together in fluid unions of beauty and light.

Rock ‘n Roll Consciousness promises to be an exhilarating new chapter for Moore and co., promising to be another highpoint in the career of this legendary artist. Serious and pretentious yet still accessible, consciousness seems to a key ideal in the album’s creation. Hopefully Moore will look back on his past and from it offer us something great.
