Metal legend Devin Townsend delivered an epic performance of massive proportions last Friday for a lucky audience of fans at his 20th anniversary show celebrating his hit 1997 album “Ocean Machine: Biomech.” A fan filmed the show, which took place at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, UK. Townsend was gracious enough to play the album in its entirety. With echoing vocals and heavy metal riffs the rock opera master holds the crowds attention on every note. Celebrating 20 years of metal anthems Townsend is giving his music proper praise with three stops across Europe with this being his first.
Townsend explained in depth the struggles of making the album recalling the downsides of sharing his studio time with Antonio Banderas and having to sample Metallica’s snare because storm interrupted recording. At 24 the artist had a lot to prove and even more creative energy to express. The album that defined his career and laid the path of his rise to fame and a rightful name among the metal stars is something that he and fans alike felt the need to celebrate. Luckily you can catch a glimpse of the performance below.
