Singer/songwriter and model Lykke Li joined actor Ryan Gosling in a duet for a sultry rendition of Bob Marley’s “It Hurts to Be Alone,” as a part of Terrence Malick’s most recent movie Song to Song. In the short clip from the film, the duo acts as old lovers who seem to still share some type of chemistry as Li dances around Gosling playing a keyboard. Malick already premiered the film at SXSW Festival in Austin, TX and it officially opened in theaters today March 17, in New York and Los Angeles. The film is set around the Austin music scene and includes other notable actors like Rooney Mara, Natalie Portman, and Michael Fassbender. Click below to check out the short clip from Song to Song.
For a movie heavily centered on music, it’s only necessary that Malick includes established musicians and the man definitely doesn’t disappoint. Artists Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, and Florence and the Machine are all confirmed to be part of the upcoming film. Unfortunately, all musicians that were filmed for the movie couldn’t make the final edit and several bands’ scenes were cut out, including the ones for indie acts Arcade Fire and Fleet Foxes plus Iron and Wine.
Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara aren’t strangers to Malick’s work, as the two were featured in his 2012 film with the Black Lips as well. Click here to watch a video of Val Kilmer on stage with The Black Lips for Malick’s movie from 2012.
