S U R V I V E Will Score Season Two of Netflix’s Stranger Things

You may not recognize the band S U R V I V E right away but if you are a Stranger Things fan you definitely have heard their music. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of S U R V I V E are the masterminds behind the Score of the wildly successful Stranger Things show from Netflix, and they have just confirmed they will be working on season two as well.

The show that is now cult status has received an immense amount of acclaim recently debuted a trailer during the Super Bowl, letting the word know there will be a season 2 coming in October. Having this new season announced left the role of scoring the film open with no one claiming the role. Today at SXSW on a podcast from the Vinyl Factory Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon from the band S U R V I V E confirmed they would be back to score the second season.

The artists explained that they will “Probably stick to a pretty similar thing” as far as their scoring technique goes. Meaning we can expect the weird ominous tones that made the first season even more creep. They also gave a mild spoiler alert for what to expect from the new season saying, “I’m sure (the music) will be weirder, because I think they are going to spend a little more time in the Upside Down this season.”

The band was created in 2009 delivering its unique blend of experimental ambient music and minimal electronic pop wave. They remained relatively quiet over the next 3 years until their self titled LP was released in 2012 which garnered a solid cult following. As the bands sound developed so did their acclaim leading them to contribute to the sound track to the 2014 thriller The Guest. Their work eventually caught the ear of the Duffer Brothers who needed 80’s themed score for their thriller Stranger Things. After the release on the show and its immediate rise to popularity the band experienced a similar trajectory. Now S U R V I V E is booking a multitude of big gigs across the nation such as Coachella, Pitchfork and Panorama.
