British singer/songwriter Karen Elson is back with a video for her new single, “Call Your Name.”
Her uplifting, resilient new single is complemented with some simple yet appropriate visuals. Elson wades out into the ocean, eventually getting shoved under the water by the waves. Elson struggles to stay afloat below in the murky waters, but eventually manages to return to the surface after finding her reflection in a mirror below the water.
The song, according to Elson, “is about the many sides of myself battling to become one.”
“With the video, I wanted to use simple metaphors of deep dark water and mirrors to literally reflect the song’s meaning of inner conflict, who I am behind the mirror?”
The two components combine to provide an apt metaphor for the relationship between identity and inner turmoil, and how sometimes one needs to experience that turmoil to truly see who they are.
The single is off Elson’s upcoming second album, Double Roses, which is due out April 7th. Elson will also be at SXSW this week.
