Baroness Members And Scott Kelly of Neurosis Will Unite to Perform as Razors in the Night at Roadburn Festival

Fans of Baroness and Neurosis are about to get something special.

Both prog-metal/heavy-metal bands have established themselves within the genre and have gone on to influence several acts big and small, all while maintaining and exploring their sounds and attracting cult-followings worldwide.

While a simple Neurosis or Baroness set would suffice for most fans, Baroness vocalist John Dyer Baizley wanted to do something a little more memorable. Baizley, along Baroness members Pete Adams and Marek Sarba, will join Neurosis frontman Scott Kelly for the new supergroup Razors in the Night, not to be confused with (you probably didn’t) hardcore skinhead group of the same name.

The supergroup will convene later this April at Het Patronaat in The Netherlands to perform a cover set of classic 80’s punk songs that inspired the sounds of both bands.

“Without Punk, there would be no Baroness, no Neurosis; and I know so many other bands out there that come from the same place.”

The idea has been one that Baizley has pondered for a long time.

“For a few years now, a few of my friends and I have been talking about creating a special set for Roadburn; a covers set that pays homage to the seminal music we listened to and played, long before we started playing heavy music or metal. Music which, however buried it is within the current sounds of our bands, is in fact the life’s blood and beating heart of what we do.”

More than just sound, punk music has had a significant impact on the members’ outlooks and personalities at well.

The music, according to Baizley, was music “that was a critical guidepost regarding how we approach our music, our art, and the world at large. Music that taught us to question everything, settle for nothing, and encouraged us to follow each of our own individual ambitions and directions, regardless of how contradictory they may have seemed to those around us.”

While some fans might not be as versed in classic punk rock as the members are, Baizley still urges fans to come out. “Please come check out a cross-section of those songs and bands that defined our early years of musical discovery. You don’t need to tune down to be heavy.”

The set will take place on April 22 and is a part of John Dyer Baizley’s curation at Roadburn.

Neurosis in their entirety will be making an appearance at this year’s Psycho Las Vegas after dropping their latest LP Fires Within Fires.
