ruby Releases Cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Announces Official Showcase at SXSW 2017

ruby, also known as Lesley Rankine, as released a cover of “Jolene” by Dolly Parton through her label Fireweed Recordings, and will also be performing at SXSW this year after finishing a winter tour.

Lesley Rankine first entered the world of music as the front woman of the band The Grizzelders. After years with the band, the artist moves to New Orleans, Lousiana but moved quickly to Seattle. ruby was formed when Lesley Rankine and Mark Walk worked together to create an album called Salt Peter. With this beginning, ruby has explored different music genres such as electronic, trip hiphop and industrial.

According to the press release, she is described to be a solo performer using a unique selection of electronic and more traditional instruments, such as a launchpad, guitar, iPhone, vocal Fx and a miniature, home-made synthesizer. This type of style could be seen at SXSW. The artist will be performing on March 14 at Austin, Mohawk at 11:30 PM, which will be held indoors.
