The only thing that Nick Sanborn (of Meganfun + Made of Oak) did was remix a song called “Play it Right” that Amelia Meath (of Mountain Man) had sent him to see what kind of spin he could come up with. And just like that, Sylvan Esso became an electro-folk duo that had everybody talking. It was a positive creative energy that even they were surprised by–one that brought them together in Durham, NC and inspired stellar songs like “Coffee” and “Hey Mami” (which Paste Magazine named their #1 song of 2014).
With the release of their self-titled first album, Sylvan Esso introduces something new and fresh to the world of music, creating songs that fuse together pop/folk/electronica that feels upbeat yet mysterious, and somehow finds a unique middle that perfectly suits both festivals (which you can hear in their hit songs) and anything low-key and cool (which is perfect for dreamy songs like “Uncatena” and “Come Down”). It’s the purity of Amelia’s voice mixed with Nick’s arrangements that makes their aesthetic so unique. They’ve toured the world. They’ve played Coachella, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza. And their impressive tour schedule only continues.
“Die Young” is the name of their latest single. It’s a song that upkeeps their quirky flavor while delivering super strong lyrics as they sing, “I had it all planned out before you met me. I had a plan. You ruined it completely.” The single is off of their upcoming album release called What Now.
