While metal and church don’t seem to go together all that well, Blabbermouth reports that Dave Mustaine has explained Megadeth Boot Camp’s optional package of “Megadeth Church” to be an opportunity for fans to connect with founding member David Ellefson. Ellefson, who when not laying down devastating grooves doubles as a pastor, will lead a “small, church-y kind of thing” and bond with fans who attend the band’s weekend retreat. The whole thing takes place March 12-15 in the remote Southern California city of Fallbrook.

Mustaine added: “I was thinking, what’s the greatest way for David to feel complete with everyone? I figured it would be great if he came and did a twelve-step thing and leaves. That way it’s a super personal way for people to connect with him, because if I was going to allow someone to connect with me on a more personal level, there really is no better way.”

Ellefson, who has spent 25 years in a 12-step program, will also lead a meditation program for those that attend the weekend gathering.

There are several packages available, with the priciest being the Mustaine Estate Package + Megadeth Boot Camp, which will run you at most, $2999 a person (though a discount is offered for double occupancy tent dwellers). The highlights of the package include an intimate acoustic performance by Megadeth, preferred seating for campfire stories with the band and priority access to off-site wine tasting with Dave Mustaine. There are several other less-pricey options available, with the least-expensive option being the simple Megadeth Boot Camp pass, which provides no accommodations.

The workshops that are held at the Mustaine Estate include fireside stories from the road, the aforementioned acoustic performance, a jam session and live streaming of Symphony of Destruction, instrument lessons, tips and tricks, wine tasting trips with Dave and metal trivia.

UPDATE (3/14): Megadeth have posted a video of their acoustic performance from over the weekend. Check out the video below:
