Scour Covers Pantera’s “Strength Beyond Strength” During Live Debut

New extreme metal “supergroup” Scour featuring Philip Anselmo of Pantera alongside members of Cattle Decapitation and Pig Destroyer, made their live debut Sunday, February 19th at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The band’s lineup is:

Phil Anselmo on vocals (Pantera, Down, Superjoint, etc.)
Derek Engemann on guitars (Cattle Decapitation, Conflux, etc.)
Chase Fraser on guitars (Animosity, Conflux, etc.)
John Jarvis on bass (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, etc.)
Jesse Schobel on drums

Fans in the audience filmed some amazing video footage of Scour performing a classic by Anselmo’s own Pantera: “Strength Beyond Strength” at the show. Anselmo has had nothing but raving things to say about his involvement with the new band:

“Doing the Scour project was a blast. The track ‘Dispatched’ was the first one I attacked, as it was the first one sent to me. Lyrically, I leave it to the listener to evaluate, as usual. The way I saw it, the songs were short and extremely straight-forward, so I didn’t want to clutter ’em up with too much. Therefore, I had to pick particular lyrics that seemed provocatively absurd enough, and to perform them as raw as deemed fit.”

The self-titled debut EP was released last July via Anselmo’s Housecore label and was mixed by Dave Otero. Scour is available on CD and vinyl formats.
