It appears that the members of hip-hop/metal supergroup Prophets of Rage have made good on their promise of new music in 2017. According to Loudwire, the band has entered the studio and is set to record their debut full-length album. The group features Chuck D of Public Enemy and B-Real of Cypress Hill with the non-singing members of Rage Against the Machine: Tim Commerford, Tom Morello and Brad Wilk.
The LP will follow the group’s first release, an EP titled The Party’s Over. That release featured an original track “The Party’s Over,” a re-worked version of the Public Enemy song “Prophets of Rage” as well as a trio of live cuts. In August, the band released a one-off song titled “No Sleep ‘Til Cleveland” to coincide with the Republican National Convention where one Donald J. Trump was nominated en-route to his shocking electoral victory a few months later.
Prophets of Rage are working with acclaimed modern rock producer Brendan O’Brien in Los Angeles at A&M Studios. The group created a video update for its eagerly waiting fans. Chuck D and B-Real both take the time to talk about the project, and promise more of what make the group great – an indelible mix of hip-hop and rock. Chuck D talked about more turntablism on the record as well. Both MCs praised the chemistry between the five artists in the studio.
While no official date or even album title has been set for the forthcoming album, expect more news soon from this political rap-rock supergroup. Additionally, the band has promised that 2017 holds more live dates for those that missed the opportunity to catch the band when they toured the country in 2016 on their “Make America Rage Again” tour in the Summer.
The three Rage Against The Machine-based members have been in the headlines already this year, with the group performing along with Chris Cornell in their other supergroup Audioslave. It was the group’s first performance in 11 years, and unsurprisingly, took place at Prophets of Rage’s Anti-Inaugural Ball.
