Beth Hart’s Sound Continues to Grow
It is no secret that Beth Hart has the chops to make an incredible record. With the release of her newest album, Fire on the Floor, she unleashes her soul to create a masterpiece in her own style.
Sticking to her usual bluesy, jazz sound, Hart starts off the album with “Jazz Man.” This track takes the listener back in time to a swinging club in the ’50s, with lyrics such as, “they call it jazz, man / the trumpet’s blinding the light / they shake it down, down, down.” Her jazzy “oohs” are sure to be left stuck in your head. “Love Gangster” also embodies Hart’s jazz-inspired sound, with fun lyrics about wanting to find a “bad” guy to love. While the vocals are strong throughout the album, they shine particularly bright on “Love is a Lie,” whilst accompanied by some solid drum work. Title track “Fire on the Floor” is similarly strong, enhanced by sharp vocals and a memorable rock melody. Hart starts off this electric song by singing, “love is a fever / and is burning me alive / it can’t be tamed or satisfied.”
Hart isn’t shy about sharing her deepest emotions on this album. “Woman You’ve Been Dreaming Of” is a personal track about the process of losing a man to another woman. Lyrics such as, “every second of the night / I’ve been holding on so tight / cause I know I’m not the woman you’ve been dreaming of,” are certain to tug on the emotions of anyone going through a similar situation. In “Picture in a Frame,” Hart pays tribute to her late producer, making this another deeply personal track. Lyrics include, “but pictures fade away / so I’m dreaming of the day / you’ll come home.” Fans of every genre of music can appreciate Beth Hart’s raw talent for singing and songwriting. One thing is for sure, she is here to stay, especially if she keeps making albums like Fire on the Floor.
