Enigmatic hip-hop artist M.I.A. is back with a video for her heavily-teased new song “P.O.W.A.” The bass-heavy track is backed by stark contrasts of the colorful musician set against bleak, colorless landscapes. Juxtaposed with shots of an eye-popping dance arrangement, the song stands as a blend of boast track and protest song.
The singer recently released an album, the long-awaited “AIM.” While the record was teased as being her final album, that does not seem to be the case at all. The delayed album was promised for a July release by the singer herself, but was eventually announced for a September release as the singer openly hoped it would be leaked. While she is a brilliant artist, there is no doubt that M.I.A. is among the most skilled promoters in the music industry.
M.I.A. keeps her rhymes simple, with a little “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” call-out towards the end, but that prefaces the most famous line that emerged from teasers for the song:
“I’m not Rihanna
I’m not Madonna
I’m not Mariah
Or Ariana”
