For anyone who’s been anxiously awaiting the new Alice in Chains album (at least we got “Tears” to hold us over), you might want to cop a ticket to the new John Wick Chapter 2 film.
Jerry Cantrell of AiC helped write the song “A Job to Do,” which will be the end-title song for the upcoming Keanu Reeves film.
Cantrell teamed up with composer Tyler Bates, who also scored the film, and just so happens to be Cantrell which is how the two initially collaborated.
“I moved houses a few years ago and ended up meeting my new neighbor, Tyler,” Cantrell told Billboard. “He did the first movie and a song with Marilyn Manson that I thought really fir the film. He mentioned there was going to be a sequel and maybe we could work it out.”
And work it out they did. The new track sounds right out of an Alice in Chains and should fit the new movie (at least by judging off the trailers) perfectly.
The song itself is a heavy, mid-tempo track that crawls inside the mind of Reeves’ character, a hit man who comes out of retirement to battle an international assassins group. What starts as a simple acoustic guitar and drums riff eventually explodes into a wall of sound.
John Wick Chapter 2 hits theaters tomorrow (February 10) if you want to catch the song in action, otherwise check out the track below.
