Bandcamp Will Donate 100 Percent of Sales to ACLU on Friday

Many groups are rallying around civil rights groups in the wake of the Donald Trump administration’s blitzkrieg of Executive Orders this week, and Bandcamp is one of them. According to The Quietus, the site, which is popular with artists of wide-ranging levels of popularity has vowed to donate an incredible 100 percent of their profits on Friday, February 3, 2017 to the American Civil Liberties Union.

The CEO of the site, Ethan Diamond, released a profound statement on the decision to donate to the organization:

“Like 98% of U.S. citizens (including the President), I am the descendant of immigrants—my great-grandparents came to America from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers and worked in sweatshops until they were able to afford to bring the rest of their families over.” He described Trump’s Executive Order to ban refugees from seven countries for a designated period of time was of particular derision from Diamon, as he stated “Last week’s Executive Order barring immigrants and refugees from seven Middle Eastern countries from entering the United States is not simply immoral, it violates the very spirit and foundation of America.”

Diamond sought out artists from Mexico (also a country of contention for the Trump administration, what with their recent Executive Order for a border wall to be built, funded by by a 20% tariff).

The site is chock full of incredible music, so it’s a win/win for music fans of the ACLU-supporting persuasion. There is music from Dr. Dog, Pinegrove, Priests, Mac DeMarco, P.O.S and many more!

UPDATE (2/3): According to ACLU, over 400 artists and labels have joined their pledge to donate sales on February 3 (that’s today!) Bandcamp makes it clear that no matter what you buy from the site, it will be donated to ACLU, but these entities have promised additional donations for their sales.
