Japandroids @ The Vic (2/15)

The duo consisting of Brian King and David Prowse recently announced a massive world tour for the end of 2016 through 2017 – it began in November and wraps up in the UK this May. The tour will promote their long awaited third album release, Near to the Wild Heart of Life which came out last Friday through Anti Records.

The punk rock band from Vancouver formed in 2006 and released their first album Post-Nothing in 2009 after signing with Polyvinyl Records.  Their second album titled Celebration Rock received critical acclaim – appearing on several top ten lists of the year by publications like Rolling Stone and Spin magazines.  The duo became known for their energetic live performances and extensive touring schedules.

Japandroids’ music has been influenced by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and The Replacements; giving them a unique classic/punk rock sound.  Their name comes from a compromise made between King and Prowse.  Prowse wanted the name “Japanese Scream” while the other wanted “Pleasure Droids” so they combined the two together.

The show is currently sold out but check here for updates and other shows playing at the Vic.
