House of Vans Chicago is hosting a two-day celebration in honor of their grand opening with performances by Future Islands, Digable Planets and Chicago’s very own, Noname starting on February 3rd. The event will also present a photography retrospective featuring photos shot at House of Vans, artist workshops and open skate at Chicago’s only indoor skate park.
Future Islands, the synthpop band whose single “Seasons (Waiting on You)” was named the best song of 2014 by Pitchfork Media and Spin. The group’s onstage antics and unconventional dance moves are sure to entertain. 90’s hip hop group Brooklyn Digable Planets will also perform. The Brooklyn based trio got back together last year and has performed on last year’s festival circuit including Pitchfork, Sasquatch! And Essence festival.
And saving perhaps the best for last, Bronzeville native Noname will be on the scene performing songs from her first mixtape, Telefone. The highly anticipated debut has received wide acclaim since its release in July of last year. Noname (born Fatimah Warner) is a poet and hip hop artist whose raps focus on the struggles of the black woman. Noname is recognized by her close relationship to Chance the Rapper; whom she appeared alongside on his debut Saturday Night Live performance.
House of Vans Chicago Open House Community Event starts on February 3rd and continues the next day with nonstop entertainment. This is a great way to come see what the culture and company is all about and venue will always be free to the public.
