Mastodon Announce New Album Emperor Of Sand For March 2017 Release

According to Stereogum, Southern metal heavyweights Mastodon have announced their latest album, Emperor of Sand. The LP will be released on March 31, 2017. It will be the band’s first album since 2014’s Once More ‘Round the Sun.

The lead single from the album will be the opening track, “Sultan’s Curse.” The song is currently available for download on the Australian iTunes, but everyone else will just have to wait in feverish anticipation. The album is produced by Brendan O’Brien, who helmed every album since the release of their 2009 masterpiece Crack The Skye.

UPDATE (1/27): Mastodon have now released their first single from the album, “Sultan’s Curse,” and fans of the band are likely to be pleased with its expansive, accessible and aggressive sound.

The band teased the album with a series of lighthearted promotional videos, including bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders dressed in military regalia, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds claiming he recorded the album’s guitar riffs inside the moon, and much more. Check them out below:
