From the ages of nine to twelve you could find Spencer Berger of Auditorium performing on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House with singers like Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. Nowadays you’ll find Spencer writing solo and performing much more low-key, taking his time with the creative process but still using his past performances as inspiration. And now he’s swiveled his classically-trained voice into something a bit more pop, definitely more personal, and something not quite like anything you’ve heard before.
His first EP is called Nights Worth Living and his first album released in 2011 is called Be Brave. Both are a indie-delicate collection of songs that are considered “power pop” with an element of folk in there, too, with lyrics revealing a vast sensitivity that has a way of spinning emotions for listeners, creating a beautiful scene that makes your heart pulse. In the song “Sunday” he sings “The first snow we all cheered and I grabbed you face in my hands and I kissed you and I promised you that someday our best days won’t only be Sundays.” His lyrics read like poetry, but when sung it’s a different feel. There’s something intense and theatrical about it, which you can really hear on songs like “If Your Girl Sings Loud” and “All Your Days.”
Auditorium has an upcoming full-length coming out called The First Music, with its single “Fire Fire Ocean Liner” already released. To experience the true essence of Auditorium’s adventurous and dramatic sound, a live show is a must.
