Alt-country singer Ryan Adams has been on the top of several “anticipated albums” lists for 2017 with his new album (don’t ask if it’s a cover album), Prisoner, due out on February 17 of this year.
During an interview with Zane Lowe, Adams dropped the third single, “Doomsday,” off his anticipated album and the track is now available for streaming.
“Doomsday” is steeped in folk and 80’s rock, with strumming guitar chords and clipped, echoing drums, giving off an undeniable Springsteen vibe as Adams sings to his love in both disbelief and commitment.
“I could wait a thousand years, my love/I’d wait for you,” he pledges at the beginning. As the chorus kicks in, Adams speaks to his love in a disbelieving and uncertain tone: “My love, we can do better than this/My love, how can complicate a kiss?/My love, do you love me now ‘til doomsday comes.”
In addition to “Doomsday,” fans have been blessed with both “Do You Still Love Me?” and “To Be Without You,” both of which have raised the anticipation for Prisoner. Adams also recently performed handful of songs from Prisoner during a show in Australia. He is also working on a double album with American singer/songstress Liz Phair and have been teasing new music.
