HBO Announces New Documentary Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends) Directed by Colin Hanks

In November of 2015 in Paris, the Western world experienced a terrorist attack like few others in its history. Across this famous city terrorists committed atrocities, the most notable of which was a mass shooting and subsequent hostage situation at the Bataclan nightclub. American rock band Eagles of Death Metal were on stage when the massacre that took the lives of 89 concertgoers ensued. All of the members of the group survived (the group’s tour manager Nick Alexander was murdered) but were left with emotional and psychological scarring.

HBO has announced it will air a documentary following EODM as they try to put the pieces back together in the wake of unimaginable tragedy. Directed by Colin Hanks, Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends) will premiere in New York and Los Angeles on February 10, 2017. The rest of the nation will have a chance to catch the 83-minute long film when it is released on HBO a few days later, February 13, 2017.

In the film, Hanks will explore the deep, strong friendship between EODM lead singer Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Homme, who is best known for his role as the frontman for Queens of the Stone Age), has been a member of the band since its inception. However, he had not yet joined the band on their European tour when the attack at Bataclan occurred; instead he was thousands of miles away in the US, powerless to aid his friends and bandmates.

Additionally, the film will touch on the intense relationship that EODM have always shared with their fans. The members of the band have felt a strong sense of responsibility in helping the survivors of the terrorist attack cope with the devastating aftermath. The film comes to a moving conclusion as  the band returns to Paris to perform at the Olympia Concert Hall, many of the fans in attendance survivors of the November 2015 attack.

Bataclan has bounced back from the devastation the attack wrought, recently reopening with concert from Sting on November 12, a day before the anniversary of the attack.
