In one of the most unusual election seasons of our time, it’s only appropriate that the historic presidential inauguration goes as such, too. It’s usually considered an honor to perform at presidential inaugurations, as Beyonce did for Obama’s 2013 celebration and Aretha Franklin in 2009. Unfortunately for Mr. Trump, it seems artists aren’t too psyched to get on the stage in Washington D.C. on that fateful day.
In fact, an unprecedented number of artists have turned down the invitation to perform. Musicians from the country relm, to the hip hop side of the industry has declined the offer, including: 2 Chainz, Elton John, Katy Perry, Moby, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Garth Brooks, Andrea Bocelli, Kiss, Celine Deon, David Foster, and Kanye West. Even the Washington D.C. High School marching bands who have performed the last five inaugurations refrained from applying this year. Trumps team thought they snagged actress and singer Jennifer Holiday, but she later dropped out from the position. To make matters a little worse and really worsen the sting, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band pulled their offer to perform at a related Trump celebration as well.
Trump is supposedly unsatisfied with his talent choosing committee, headed by the producer of Celebrity Apprentice, who has failed to book top musical talent. Leading acts of those who accepted the invitation and are set to be performing so far are Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down. Other musicians include DJ Ravidrums, The Piano Guys, Tim Rushlow (“Little Texas”), Larry Stewart (“Restless Heart”), Marty Roe (“Diamond Rio”), and Lee Greenwood.
UPDATE (1/19): With just a day until the inauguration, there are several new additions to the inauguration. Tim Rushlow of Little Texas, R&B star Sam Moore, Tony Orlando and Chrisete Michaels have been added to the weekend’s proceedings.
