BPM music festival’s final night ended with a fatal shooting leaving five people killed and fifteen injured. The shooting occurred early Monday at Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Festival goes gathered to Blue Parrot on the last night of the 10-day festival to enjoy a few more hours of electronic music and dancing. According to Attorney General Miguel Angel Pech, a man with a gun attempted to enter the nightclub around 2:30 a.m Monday, but was denied entry by security and resulted in him opening fire.
The victims included four males who died from gunshot wounds, and one women who was killed in a stampede of people attempting to flee the shooting (three of which were security personnel.) During a press conference Pech stated that the victims consisted of two Canadians, one Italian and one Columbian citizen.
EDM lovers from all over the world travel to BPM to experience 10- days of non stop music featuring over 375 artist.
The Music community of Toronto mourns the lost of their own, security guard and bouncer Kirk Wilson. Described as a “The six-foot-five gentle giant,” this canadian victim worked various events and toured with Nelly Furtado.
As of now Pech explained that, “three people were detained for questioning, but it was unclear whether they were involved in the shooting.” Pech also confirmed that they are aware of an exchange of gunfire near the club, but are still identifying whether the two incidents are related.

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT (UPDATED*):
It is with great sadness to share that police have confirmed reports of a lone shooter outside the Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa Del Carmen earlier today, which resulted in five fatalities and fifteen injured.* The violence began on 12th street in front of the club and three members of the BPM security team were among those whose lives were lost while trying to protect patrons inside the venue.
The BPM Festival has been working closely with the local authorities (Seguridad Publica / Policia Turistica) throughout the festival to ensure public safety and security for all visitors. We are overcome with grief over this senseless act of violence and we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement and government officials as they continue their investigation.

Update (1/18/2017): Zeta’s Cartel is claiming responsibility for the shooting at Blue Parrot nightclub. According to Fox News, Tuesday morning median authorities found four separate “narcoblankets” across town claiming that they’re responsible for the attack. Each blanket read:
“This is a sign that we are already here because you didn’t align PHILLIP -BPM, it is the beginning we are going to cut the heads of Golfos, PELONES and chapulines, Atte [Sincerely] el FAYO Z from the old SCHOOL”
