Social Media has become this generations diary. What once was considered a private exploration into someones private thoughts has now become available to everybody. It becomes a headline in numerous media outlets as it has with Nine Inch Nails’s Trent Reznor.
According to PRP, Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor did an interview with Yahoo and went in depth on upcoming projects and had some news for Nine Inch Nails fans.
When asked about new music coming from the legendary group Reznor had this to say, “We’re working on new stuff now, so we’re planning to release more stuff as soon as it’s ready, and I don’t think that’s this year.”
Reznor discussed new music from his band How To Destroy Angels and them process of creating new music for their latest EP Not The Actual Events.
“The process of that EP was comforting to us. It dawned on me that every time I walked into our studio, I walked past a couple dusty guitars that I haven’t touched since the last tour because at some point I decided guitars were out of fashion and I’d done that.”
Reznor went on to discuss the liberating feeling that he got when he decided to use different sounds. At times, for an artist it is rejuvenating to try new tools of creativity. The fan is the one who benefits the most by getting to hear good music and seeing new music music performed live.
Reznor became more passionate when the conversation became about social media when he said, ”
I think, in general, that has created a toxic environment for artists and led to some very safe music. Artists are trying to make music to please the tastemakers that tell the sheep what to like. It’s a vicious cycle and I think it’s unhealthy. I don’t see any Prince‘s emerging on the scene today.”
Nine Inch Nails will be performing at the Panorama Festival that will have a lineup that will feature A Tribe Called Quest, Frank Ocean, Solange, and Vince Staples.
